After being inundated with the calls for volunteers to help with the Fargo flood fight for the last month, I have to wonder a little bit. If there are no volunteers, maybe the residents and businesses in Fargo dont care about saving thier homes and businesses. So, why in the hell should anybody else? I for one will not spend 10 seconds this year helping fargo! If they refuse to help themselves and just rely on the charity of others year after year, I hope they float! Per cpete.

Organizers hope to fill 65,000 sandbags today, which would complete the city's goal of filling 1 million sandbags. This goal is expected to be reached this afternoon. At that time, sandbag filling operations will be put on hold and the “Denny’s Bucks for Bags” program will end.

Looks like they cared.

posted by: gst. If Fargo has been the historically dominant economic race horse that has carried the state for years, why haven't the citizens and businesses of Fargo provided themselves with permanent flood protection?

To make the assumpton that a land grant university would not have been just as successful if started in say Bismarck as it would have in Fargo is well kinda presumptuious in the least.

I may be incorrect, but I believe that when the insurance companies have to pay out large sums of money - they "catch up" by increasing the somewhat related polices. Somewhat similar to what happend to our regular ND House Insurance when September 11th went down. That was in NY, but my rates shot up in ND... Again, I could be mistaken.

posted by: Swanson. i totally understand all of this, I grew up near Roseau and before we flooded , the whole town which is only 3000 people was sandbagging and getting it done, unfortunetly we lost. i spent 4 days on a island with no way in or out except boat. a few years later i move to fargo, see they are diking of the streets, but traffic is crazy everyone going on about their day as if nothing is happening, like saying ahh somone one else will do it.

Last year, i sandbagged everyday from dawn till middle of the morning like 2 am for 6 days straight called into work even though they never shut down (Integrity) soon enough they did but it took the city to tell them to help. but what i am saying is this shouldn't even be an issue we are a community and should stand as a community, businesses should be sending employees to help save their city and the population here is ridicoulous we should ahve this whole place sandbagged diked whatever within a week. praying odesn't happen but u can bet if it does i will be out there throwin baggs with people i do not know having a good time

Why is it that the tax revenues raised in Cass County are sent to other "poor" counties??? hmmmmm!! So, yah, just let it go under and then you "poor" counties can finally fend for yourselves and cry and beg for financial assistance elsewhere.

Does that tax estimate include the oil and coal counties out west? Lots of tax on royalty payments.
