Hunting Fishing Discussions

Red River (North) - Monday, August 8, 2011

Report Details
Fishing on the Red in the Grand Forks area was fair to good this past week.  With the high water the fish were really spread out on the river and it took some effort to find and stay on them.  Some days you would catch big cats, other days lots of little ones.
The best spots were the shallow drop offs along the banks in 2-10 feet of water.  The water could not be to fast or to slow to hold fish.  Sucker was the best bait for catching fish but goldeye got more bites and smaller fish.  It normally took 10-15 minutes for the fish to find the bait.  Most picked at it before hitting and some would just slam it.  All in all not a bad bite considering the up and down conditions of the past weeks.
There is still lots of debris floating in the channel so be careful when running and anchoring.  Both Grand Forks ramps remain open and are in great shape right now.
