Got my first couple fish of the year today. Caught a 24 inch Channel Cat (first time ever for me) and a little 6 inch bullhead. Fishing from shore in downtown Grand Forks, dropped a gob of nightcrawlers on a hook right behind one of the railroad piers. Plenty of nibbles and bait stealing before I hooked up. Love working right next to the river, I can just walk over and toss a line in on my lunch break.

I wen't down to the river in south Fargo this evening, pulled out 2 pike (each around 30in) and a smallmouth surprisingly. Unfortunately those were not my targeted species. Anyone else locating any eyes in or around town these days?

Not a report-
I have only been in the Fargo area since 2010, so whats the score when it comes to fishing the river when it floods out. Is it even going worth going out and trying when it gets so high? Any info is appreciated. Thanks

I'm sure glad I was not discouraged by yesterdays lack of action on the north side of Fargo. I found a spot in the southern part of town that had an area of open water, and that was quite productive. In 3 hours I ended up with 2 eyes, and 2 pike. Jigs and Fatheads were the ticket. All caught on a slow retrieve along the bottom. Get out there while you still can. I'll be back out tomorrow if I am not sandbagging.

Went out in the airplane park in fargo saturday. Fished for 2 hours and not a bite. tried worms and mister twisters jigging, bobbers, and sitting on the bottom. was expecting at least a pike or goldeye but not a thing. hopefully after the flood we can get out again and give her another try.

Seen quite a few people down fishing the north dam in Fargo, but I haven't seen any fish pulled out. Is anyone getting anything down there?

well i went out to check out the ice condition. i found that a lot of south fargo it is still iced over. convent, rose creek inlet, lions. but as i went north the ice started to disapear. the north dam is open, but south of the dam is still frozen. the area around the dike is pretty much open (really fast though). ill be out as soon as the ice and mud is gone!

Went out to the convent landing today and fished from 8-14 FOW. Lost 2 fish in 8 ft and lost something big on a tip up in 14ft. no fish but was really close to needing an extension on the auger. Might setup a tipup army wednesday night.

Not a report, more of an Inquiry. My question is to whether it is really worth it to ice fish the Red River(Fargo area)? I have a lot of skepticism about just going out there and drilling holes, and I do realize what is safe ice on a river. Any info would be great. Thanks.

So outside of town the ice is real solid. Got out later than I hoped and somehow forgot my Showdown...so I set up a small army of tipups at the Convent landing/52nd ave. Used fatheads with various setups and no flags! Managed to snag a branch jigging with a darter and pulled out a 5ft branch...didn't want to lose the $6 lure! Any tips on where to go would be appreciated!

Ice in current: 11in
Ice in slack water: 22-24in
Snowmobiles out and about south of town

Lots of open water in F/M, I'm going to venture south of town to see what the ice is like. Will post an ice report (and hopefully fishing report) and if anyone has recent info north or south of town, feel free to share!
