Red River (North) - Thursday, August 25, 2011 | |
Fished North Fargo on some flooded shoreline. It's been slower in this spot now that the water is dropping but I can't wait for the water to be in the banks again this summer. We picked up one on Cut Bait. On Monday we fished frogs vs. cut sucker and sucker scored 5 decent cats and frogs zero. Range 2lbs to 12lbs. A person may need to try both for awhile here as they switch to frogs. |

Catfishing on the Red around Grand Forks is the best I've seen in two years. Lots of big fish are feeding hard and looking good this week. They are feeding on most structures. Two days ago they wanted nothing but frog and yesterday they were preferring sucker 3-1 over frog. I suggest using both to be safe. The river is in about as good of shape as it has been all year.

Frogs, Frogs and more Frogs.
Fished south of fargo this morning, and wow did they hit hard. Like Brad said, fast water out of holes and snags. Though did pickup a nice large one on the slack side of hole. Fished anywhere from 10 to 20 ft of water. Water is still high and Caution with logs floating. Had to cut anchor to keep front of boat from going under. We tried sucker and goldeye and not one tap. Sat in one hole and pulled 4 nice eaters out of it within 40 min. Stay safe and tight lines |

Fishing on the Red at GF is heating up. The water finally leveled off to only a slow drop and the fish are showing it. They are moving to the fast water around the holes and the snags. Bait of choice is sucker and frog. It seems they just don't have the taste for goldeye really. Stop in a spot and give it a good 20-30 minutes before leaving. When the fish hit there is no guess work. If the weather cooperates the fishing should only get better from here on out.

Went out scouting a bit south of fargo yesterday and the mosqitos were fierce. Got 3 cats in about a half hour, and probably a case of west nile. Lots of action on the inside corners as the high water and strong flows still affect the fish.

Anybody out there need any frozen goldeye or frozen frogs. I stocked up this spring, and with how high the river has been I have not fished the river nearly as often as I ussually do. I am in Fargo, but will be coming through Grand Forks sometime Friday afternoon. Any takers, its free.
