Went out to the convent landing today and fished from 8-14 FOW. Lost 2 fish in 8 ft and lost something big on a tip up in 14ft. no fish but was really close to needing an extension on the auger. Might setup a tipup army wednesday night.

Not a report, more of an Inquiry. My question is to whether it is really worth it to ice fish the Red River(Fargo area)? I have a lot of skepticism about just going out there and drilling holes, and I do realize what is safe ice on a river. Any info would be great. Thanks.

So outside of town the ice is real solid. Got out later than I hoped and somehow forgot my Showdown...so I set up a small army of tipups at the Convent landing/52nd ave. Used fatheads with various setups and no flags! Managed to snag a branch jigging with a darter and pulled out a 5ft branch...didn't want to lose the $6 lure! Any tips on where to go would be appreciated!

Ice in current: 11in
Ice in slack water: 22-24in
Snowmobiles out and about south of town

Lots of open water in F/M, I'm going to venture south of town to see what the ice is like. Will post an ice report (and hopefully fishing report) and if anyone has recent info north or south of town, feel free to share!

I was in Cabella's last night in East Grand.  One of the guys back in the fishing section (employee) had been out the night before and said he had 10 inches of ice where he was.  I didn't ask where that was.  Said he caught a few small walleye's.   I am sure the ice varies a lot so be careful especially on a river.

Red River @ Oxbow Dam.  Cheap Wal-Mart knock off rooster tails.  Pulled out nearly 10 Gold Eyes and one Walleye just below the dam.  Walleye was 28" and 7.2 Pounds.  After catching nothing but Gold Eyes all day, I was shocked when I reeled in this "Volkswagen".  Caught around 6:45 PM.

Just an FYI out to all people considering fishing Drayton Dam.  The water is too low to get a boat any where near the dam.  I made 2 attempts with my Lund Angler only to be beached and have to jump out to push my boat off the bottom.  It's a sorry sight up there.  If you have an air boat or shallow running jet boat, you might have a shot, but that's it.  I casted from shore for a while and only hooked a carp in the back.
