Hit the river this afternoon with Mkoze and a friend in south fargo. Caught quite a few sheepshead, and smaller cats. But  the good news is MKoze ended up catching a nice 8-10 lb cat on a sucker. The action had stopped and my other friends rod got hit hard by something big and almost pulled it in, it put up a good fight but the bad news is it broke off and we didn't get to see what it was... Probably a trophy fish.. Haha anybody else been on the river lately?

NOT A RED RIVER REPORT.***GOOSE RIVER TRALL COUNTY***

That being stated my brother and I tried the goose, had success but not with the usual suspects. first off he tried sliced ham and imlike??Hmm ok and he told me it had instant and good success with it caught 1-2 lb fish regularly and often. jighead chunk of han wait a minute and you have one  put up a nice fight.and went after the bait hard no messing around.problem is im not usre of the fish species we caught font think its goldeye beause theya re similar to carp and have the suck mouth correct? these things had big pointy teeth and liked to snap their jaws( no lipping those things LOL) whitish color and scales, super bait aggressive. tasteddecent but bony like a northern. if nothing else they will be good cutbait to chop up and bag in the freezer.

RED RIVER PORTION

If you people don't know what the best bait for cats is try frogs. yeah I know most of you probably know this just good luck finding and catching them. I have a spot where its right next to the red in the short grass and shelterbelt is very close to the road. see em jump sneakup on them and grab. plus a frog should last through 2 cats

Went out last weekend near lindenwood caught 12 goldeye, 4 drum (one was biggest i've seen), 1 carp, 1 redhorse, 1 little burbot and  a couple stonecats  Used goldeye to catch two nice 7 lb kitties.  Also had on a 10 lb (est) cat on one of my little tiny bait rods on a worm.  No way i was getting that in, but i did get to see it.  Then went home and realized that  i left one of my rods down there and went back and there it was stuck in the tree branch rod holder i had and there was a 3lb cat on the end.  Pretty fun.  Oh, almost forgot caught a little tiny rock bass too.

Went out by Convent Landing last night and found a good place to fish from shore.  Got skunked for about an hour, then moved about 20 feet.  First cast with my smaller rod caught a goldeye as soon as it hit the water.  Cut that up and used it as bait for my big catfish rod, and almost immediately hit about a 5 lb cat, which was fun.

Didn't catch anymore bigger ones, but caught enough small ones to keep myself entertained for the night.  Best night I have had on the Red yet.

Anyone been fishing the Red?  If so, any luck now that the water is starting to warm up?  I keep getting skunked any time that I go.

Went out last night for about 2 hours.  Ended up catching only cats.  had about 5 or so in the 3-5 lb range.  Thought it was a great night since those were the largest I have caught in the last 2 years on the Wild Rice.  (They dont have the wild Rice river as an option so I am putting it under the RED)

Went out this AM for a few hours looking to hit some walleye, Had a ton of goldeye biting my minnow on my one line. Not a lot of action using a jig and a minnow as I only ended up with one walleye. Was fishing up by North River for a bit then at the North Dam.

Fished 3 spots in Fargo last weekend. Fished the rock dam in south Fargo and 2 drainage confluences up north. No takers on the day. Used minnows and jigs. Went up north near Hillsboro area and river is still pretty frozen solid. Checked out the sheyenne and other tribs near Fargo and Hillsboro and they were all either frozen or very shallow. River levels are way down this year.

Was up at the north dam a few days ago just to see what it looked like. The river is open for a few hundred yards past the dam, though I doubt there are to many fish around yet. Considering giving it a shot one of these days, but I got to remember to get a new license first.
