Looking for a little problem-solving help with my 2003 90hp Merc 4-stroke.  I had it winterized last spring and stored it in the barn all winter.  Took it out on the lake and had some issues starting it and with it sputtering and jerking when opened up.  Figured it might be old gas running it's course, but after 3 more trips out and a new tank of gas, it persisted.  I put another new tank in and changed the plugs on it...ran like a champ the next day.  Took it back out the following day and had the same problems again.  Any ideas what is going on...fuel pump, etc???  I spose I need to run it in, but you know how it is when the fishing is good!!

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Check fuel filters.  I have a 2002 60 HP Merc 4 stroke and it has two filters.  One on the starboard side (easy to see) and another on the port side below the engine.  You may have to remove a side cover to find it.  I had the same problem last year and it ended up being both filters clogged and also lots of crap in the injectors themselves.  Expensive to have cleaned and pressure tested.

Thanks for the info...did you end up just replacing the filters or did you have to have more done by a mechanic?

Did the filters myself.  Had the injecters cleaned by a marine shop.
