Minnewaukan Boat Ramp This Weekend

It sure was nice to be on the open water this weekend.  However, I do have to share one story with you so hopefully no one else makes the same mistake.

Saturday morning, I proceeded south of Minnewaukan to the boat ramp to put the boat in the water.  As I approached the ramp, I noticed a truck was already backed in the ramp.  This was nice to see because I wasn't too sure if the ramp was in useable condition.

As I proceeded closer to the ramp, I noticed there was no boat in the water and there was not any one at the ramp.  I couldn't believe what I was seeing.  Here, a truck was backed down the ramp and unloaded their boat and left the area with the truck parked on the ramp with the trailer left in the water.

The truck doors were locked and there was no way around the truck to unload any other boats.

Can anyone offer any justification as to why someone would do such a stupid thing?  I'm curious why someone would think this would be appropriate.  Blocking the only ramp access on the West end of the lake is not a good thing.  The ramp in Minnewaukan has a build up of ice and could not be used that morning.

Maybe someone knows the truck that was parked their and can solicite some explanation from the truck and boat owner.

Make:  Ford Crew Cab (newer model)
Color:  Maroon
Custom wheels with chrome rocker panels
Trailer:  Green tandem axle?

Based on the license plate, I'm pretty sure that this is an avid angler that should have known better.

If the person that left the truck on the ramp reads this, please correct my account of the story if it is not accurate and please offer your side of the story.

I know of five people that had their fishing plans effected by this event.

I guess the city of Minnewaukan needs to put a sign up that says:

"No parking on the ramp"

I hope this post prevents any future ramps blockages from occuring due to a vehicle parking on the ramp.

HHHMMM,

Could this be an extention of the famous ice pirate thing "that is my ice fishing hole, so you can't us it" now being carried over to open water fishing on a grand scale.

Man, some people just have NO CLUE and show NO RESPECT for thier fellow Sportsman! Even IF they may have been out for a test run of the boat you just don't leave your truck parked on the ramp. NO CLUE, NO RESPECT, NOT A SPORTSMAN! Just my 2 bit opinion!

About the ONLY reason I could see this happening is if his truck broke down on the ramp, no cell phone and took his boat to try and get someone to pull him off the ramp. IF this was the case, he should have just stayed there and waited for the next guy to show up and ask for help. Pretty stupid to leave your truck on the only ramp. Were there any other vehicles with empty trailers that maybe got a surprise when they came back to load up?

Who in their right mind would leave their trailer submerged?  Maybe it was a test of a new type of bearing seals and he wanted to see if they were better than the normal ones which would still let in some water if parked there all day.

Can't place the pickup.  I know a couple people I could ask.  I have a hard time thinking that someone would do that without some reason.  There must have been something wrong with the truck.

The cell reception down there is rather spotty and I'll bet the ramp isn't busy right now.  He must have taken the boat for help but I don't know where he would go.  Be easier to tie it off and walk into town from there especially if the other ramp was iced in.

Somebody has some 'splainin to do.

Why did you not call the PO PO for an abaden vehicle blocking a public access? One of two things would have happened, one, there would have been a ticket left for him or her to remeind them not to do stupid stuff, or two, they would have had it towed and thus a further reminder not to do stupid stuff.

I also have a feeling that the liscence plate holds a clue, but unfortuanitly it once again sheds a negative light on a certain group of fishermen.

I was also there. Tried to put my boat in off the shore instead of drive all the way over to the island to put in. Ended up sinking into the sand and getting stuck.

I also know that the individual was confronted when they came in. He claimed that no one else was using the landing and it was no big deal. The game warden was called. Not sure of the out come of that.

Pretty frustrating when people have no consideration for any one else. Sure hope he gets his due. Keep an eye out for the SOB's liscense plate and give him a peice of your mind if you see him.

I heard that a Game Warden left a business card on the truck leaving instructions for the vehicle owner to call him immediately to discuss his parking habits.  I beleive it was the game wardens duty to have the vehicle towed immediately.  I'm not too sure why it was not done.

Thankfully, there were not any other empty boat trailers at the ramp.

Also, the vehicle was not broke down.  It was parked on the ramp and left there intentionally in my opinion.

I think I have a good idea of who owns the truck after doing a little research.  I will not make any claims because I do not know for certain who was driving the truck.  I'm sure that person has already read this post.

I agree.  The vehicle should have been towed immediately and it probably will be if it happens again.

This could be one of the roughest boat ramp ettiquete stories I've ever heard! It's almost too stupid to believe!
The kill is the satisfying, indeed essential, conclusion to a successful hunt. But, I take no pleasure in the act itself. One does not hunt in order to kill, but kills in order to have hunted. Then why do I hunt? I hunt for the same reason my well-fed cat hunts...because I must, because it is in the blood, because I am the decendent of a thousand generations of hunters. I hunt because I am a hunter.- Finn Aagard

If it were me, I would take my chances and relocate it for him. If it were his first time, I would probably just tow it into Minnewalkin, he could find it by way of the skid marks. If it were a perpetual repeat offender, I would probably help him deeper in the water with a push bar on the front of my truck, still couldn't use the ramp, but damn, I would pay a days worth of fishing to his face.

I belive I also may know who it is, I will confirm the owner of the truck tonight.

Hard to believe anyone would do that!  Could be an explanation, like he was alone, no cell phone, went for help in his boat??  I'd have stayed ther till someone came along, and went for help or at least pulled me out.
I had engine trouble once and came back with the trolling motor and a guy gave me heck for tying the boat up on the end of the dock (it was out of the way of other boats anyway and hard to manuver in the current with the depleted battery trolling motor)  while going for the trailer.   In retrospect I should have left the cover off so anyone would know what I was doing and not just an idiot.  I confess, I'm usually  an idiot, but that time.......LOL

That was my first thought too bobkat.  Recent posts indicate that it wasn't the case.  Apparently this was just disrespect and bad behavior.  A real "headscratcher".  I just can't understand how anyone would leave their vehicle backed in at a public ramp unless there was a mechanical problem.

Some arrogant tourney fisherman thinking he is the only one deserving of fishing on a beautiful spring day. I too second the flat front tires or the tow rop onto the front hooks and make it move yourself.
