Lake of the Woods - Monday, March 31, 2008

Fished out of Zippel Bay Resort saturday and sun(29-30). Spent 24 hours in a sleeper about 2 miles out in 27 feet of water. Caught about 40 with 6 lines. Nothing over 1 1/2lbs and mostly sauger. Caught the majority on plain red hooks with half of those coming on just shiner heads, the other 1/2 on full shiners. Caught the bigger ones (couple wallys)on jig w/shiner. Not one hard strike. Vexilar rarely showed anything more than 4 inches off the bottom.

There's at least 36in of good ice left. All the reports in that area are that nothings doing yet in the shallows. Inconsistent bite out in the deep stuff, heavy on the sauger. This warm weather coming up should turn things around. Heard they are absolutely pounding them on open water on the Rainey River. Only trouble is the guys had to push their aluminum boats out over the ice...worth it if you ask me.
