Holms:

What you have heard about gold is true. I have had some of my best luck on jigging spoons with either gold or silver backs on them. Kastmasters can work well to. I use gold genz worms for my dead sticks up there. Also red glow jigs seem to work very well. It will not take long for you to figure out what works up there. Where are you going out of?

I am heading up to LOTW for the first time at the end of March. I was wondering what typically works best up there. I keep hearing gold and glow in the dark are the main colors needed. I have a fairly large amount of ice fishing tackle already, but wondering if there is anything that I should make sure to bring.

Thanks

Dwatne,

Any luck as of late. Been a few years since I fished with ya, but if the fishing is better this year then the last couple I may be up for a few days. Let me know.

Just got back from a three day trip. Ended up catching about 150 walleyes 10 saugers 5 perch and a eel poute between the eight of us. Average size was about 14". Alot of small 10-11" fish. The biggest was a 27 1/2 incher. Fish realy seem to like gold tipped with a minnow. Was great time.

My son Brady and I hit LOW on Friday night around 3pm, jumped in a house of a GREAT fishing buddy of mine and the slaughter was on; 2 days prior a 31in walleye was caught in this house. This was Brady?s (7yrs) first trip to LOW and with in one hour he caught both our limits, the smiles and fun we had in that 1 hr of catching and missing will be unforgettable. Pretty much needed to have gold on tipped with a shiner and fishing on the East side of the house; we were in 24 FOW. The next day Sat. our house produced 18 walleyes 14-15in average with 1 around 19in. Sunday was SUMO day in one the houses. A 25.5in, 28in, 29in, and 29.5in, where caught and released and 2 other unknown sumos were knocked off at the ice, plus a bucket full of eaters where taken in this house. Our house produced about a half a bucket of walleyes and missed a ton. Fish with Gold, Stay North and as Far East as you dare and you?ll fill your bucket up?The ice where we where fishing was well over 18inches.

Thanks to the RIVER BEND, Massey and Mark for all the help, hospitality, and info. My hats off to all of you. You guys are GREAT! Thanks again.

Good LUCK!

Was up there last week Wed-Sat. Fished about 2 miles NE over pine island in 24 feet and had now problem catching our daily limits of slot fish. Only fished mornings and evenings and No Sumo's. Biggest released was in the 22in range and 1 sturgeon about 30in. People out deep(30ft ) had very good luck also.

ICE is around the 12-14 inches I have seen 150s-250s and 350 pickups out there pulling castles! You'll see 1000's of fish houses set up once your cross pine. The first 1/2 mile over pine is pretty chopped up (very bumpy) and then its gets better. Seemed like normal snow coverage.

One dude that cleans fish at a resort has logged cleaning over 1200 fish he himself has in 10 day period. This dude should make a movie on fish cleaning, he is awesome. Fishing is good and it should only get better with these stable temps.

Don't forget to take your gold with you up on LOW!

Enjoy your trip, I will be heading that way again on Friday!

Unless you plan on going accross to Stoney Pt or there of the Norht Side, I would waste my time on the Big Lake. Fished the stained water on the south side for 2 days and found only one fish. Go to Stoney is all the reports we got... they are hammering the walleyes in 18-22 fow jigging on frozen shiners. The whole South side is Stained and very hard to fish. Good Luck and stay afloat!
