Lake of the Woods - Monday, April 7, 2008
fished right out of warroad, landing was really good, brought 4 wheeler pretty much for nothing, went out on 5mile and caught around 40 walleyes/saugers, 15 perch and 2 northerns, kept 8walleyes/saugers 1perch and 0northerns, and that was between 4 guys, just no size to them pretty fun though, does anybody know where i can get into some good fish for next weekend and actually bring home a limit, how did everyone else do, and was anybody else catching a lot of small ones, wasnt like this last year.

As for driving out there, just got some pics from a buddy up there on a pice trip. They had the fourwheelers in the pickups and on the trailers behind the vehicles on the ice! If you have a wheeler I think that would be advised now with some warmer weather showing up lately. Good luck and report back on how you do.

Lake of the Woods - Monday, March 31, 2008
Fished out of Zippel Bay Resort saturday and sun(29-30). Spent 24 hours in a sleeper about 2 miles out in 27 feet of water. Caught about 40 with 6 lines. Nothing over 1 1/2lbs and mostly sauger. Caught the majority on plain red hooks with half of those coming on just shiner heads, the other 1/2 on full shiners. Caught the bigger ones (couple wallys)on jig w/shiner. Not one hard strike. Vexilar rarely showed anything more than 4 inches off the bottom.
There's at least 36in of good ice left. All the reports in that area are that nothings doing yet in the shallows. Inconsistent bite out in the deep stuff, heavy on the sauger. This warm weather coming up should turn things around. Heard they are absolutely pounding them on open water on the Rainey River. Only trouble is the guys had to push their aluminum boats out over the ice...worth it if you ask me. |

Last report I heard was over week ago now. Said the fishing was better for size then closer in. However the larger ones were not showing up in the numbers yet. Like I say that is over a week old now though. Good luck let us know how you do.

I have heard of few first hand reports from there saying the perch are going well. Seems lots in the 10-11 inch range with a few each day bigger. I wish I could get up there in the next couple weeks! Gotta save on the gas money for the open water. Let me know how you do.

Reports coming in seem to be good from the entire lake. Sportsmans lodge, springsteel, and zipple are all having success. Many of these areas are producing perch as well. The pike are going well around warroad as usual also. They are saying that there has not been much if any thawing so access is still good on the lake. 30' of H2O, but that is a lot of lake to cover. The reefs of Arnesons should also be producing.
Where you looking at going out of. A little more info could possibly be found. |
