Hey guys I posted this same topic on FBO but didn't get to much help so I was wondering if anybody on here could help me. I am going to be a first time ice fisher on devils lake and I need some tips on how to fish it. I have ice fished lake of the woods and Red Lake for many years but I have been told that DL is a different style of ice fishing. I fished there a lot this summer and it was amazing so I am hoping to get in on some of that this winter to.

thanks

find yourself some nice submerged timber, if you have an aqua view go out and drill 100-200 holes along and areas with12-16fow and check the drops for and timber or vegatation. You will find that the crappies and eyes will hang all along the same territory, use a jigging spoon and minnow head a locating device for the fish, once you find them fish with minnows and set up shop, but remember, they wont always station in a specific area all day, we willing to move from hole to hole and "follow" the fish

Well somethings up if you blanked on URL? We should take inventory of your tackle box, something is amiss!

1st drop the steel leader and snap swivel and switch to mono line and get rid of the bobber...(smile)

The tree's are the ticket for starters, get right in them to,you'll see the branches underwater on the vex, some guys use "rat finkes" and other jigs, stop @ Ed's bait or better yet Woodland resort for pointers and bait, even lodging.

absolutley it would be, dont tamper with past success, fish all the timber that you can find, from 16 all the way to 8fow, and any edges or countours around the area that you are staged at.

Dw,

Yes sir,get right in them tree's and be quiet if the water is shallow, heck last time we hit the ice on DL was for the Trap Attack held on creel bay we absolutely hammered the walleyes seaching for jumbo's.Same tactic's we use on mille laces works great on DL (JIGGIN SPOONS)

When are you going to DL? I will be out there Saturday morning. I have been ice fishing the lake for the past 2 years. If you have a GPS, all you need to find is a sharp drop in 16-24 foot of water and the bite is 0645-0830 and 1/2 before dark to 1 hour after. If you are coming out Saturday let me know.

I have either been out of town or the blizzard this weekend kept me at home. Saturday will be the first day out there. I found a nice spot last year that nobody else fished and had success all winter long. I cant see it being any different this year since not much has changed, but we will see.

We marked a fair number of fish, but the temp went from 5 degrees at 0400 to -12 by 0600. The eyes would come in and look at the bait and then just swim away. I had 5 actual bites and one fish about 15". There must have been a strong pressure change with the temp change and locked them down a little. We were off the lake at 0930 with a frostbitten nose. The first of Jan we will be out again.
