I figured when I started reading that article it must be either a tree hugger or a rancher/farmer. I see it was written by a 4 generation rancher.

Call me a tree hugged I guess...but I sort of agree with him...I think all oil is greedy.. And there should be more laws to protect the land and wildlife.. I'm an avid outdoors man but I don't really like what it has done to our great state.  ..besides all the jobs and boosted economy

Here is John Heiser in High Country News:

http://www.hcn.org/issues/180/5833

He doesn't like oil wells, progress, people who raise buffalo and his neighbors who run cattle on fee lands. On the flip side his neighbors don't like him. They don't talk to him.

John Heiser also collected signatures for the HFI. He is one of those.

some things are agreeable the big question is who has the money to fight it   IF it goes to the legislature to stop it will big oil buy them out.  I have no issue with oil production it is the distruction. IF oil is that important then pipeline to a central point  keep the roads out of the badlands just reclaim the land and stop with throwing out garbage
The caribou are doing real well after oil came in and that is what needs to be done even if it is in the name of progress

I agree marksman, some of his view points are a bit radical?  If that's the proper term.
I have no issue with progress if done in the direction.  But like you said. Oil production is fine....it's the destruction that I have a problem with.

Why is every conservationist a "treehugger"? If it weren't for conservationists, you would have a hard time finding anything or anywhere to hunt.

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." -Edmund Burke

"The time at which I stand before you is full of interest. The eyes of all nations are fixed on our Republic. The event of the existing crisis will be decisive in the opinion of mankind of the practicability of our federal system of government. Great is the stake placed in our hands; great is the responsibility which must rest upon the people of the United States. Let us realize the importance of the attitude in which we stand before the world. Let us exercise forbearance and firmness. Let us extricate our country from the dangers which surround it and learn wisdom from the lessons they inculcate."

-Andrew Jackson, 2nd Inaugural address, 1833

It is really sad to see whats going on around here. I live in Williston and there is not one gravel road  you can drive down and not have a gravel truck or water truck fly by you at 60 mph within 30 miles of town. There is locations everywhere and there is something going on on about everyone of them and people everywhere in the country. I never see coyotes, deer, birds, or really any wildlife for that matter.  I grew up here and Its a completley different world. I know in some states they take exstensive measures after a well is drilled to clean up the area and even plant trees around the location. I work in the patch and I've heard it from numerous company men that the biggest reason it is as busy as it is here is just because we are to dumb to care and we do not have near the regulations as other states making it easier for them to just come in here and do what they please. We need big changes soon or it's only going to get worse!

Marksman how many topics have you started complaining about the crime the boom has brought.  You must have strong legs as much as you jump the fence back and forth.

I might live out of state but having paved hiway 2 from minot to williston and alot of other roads out there i can say i have a little first hand experience with it.  But not haveing been in the last year i can say i dont miss it at all.  There was a pond/damn south of ray that had some damn nice bluegills and trout in it that made my stay up there very enjoyable.

Jake I agree with most of what your saying.  I work for a drilling co.  They aren't here because the regulations are less.  They're here because there is lots of oil, the price is high and they can obtain leases.  Other states are actually better from a tax stand point for oil companies.  There's tons of oil in CO. also.  They're not drilling for alot of it because they can't obtain leases for it.
