Last year oil traded at 142.00/barrel. Gas was 4.10

Now oil 73.00barrel and gas is 2.79

At the rate of overcharge Gas should be 2.10

I believe that now the 2.79 per gallon in a clear defination of gouging,Congress could not define gouging when the high price of gas was questioned. Now maybe if people would contact the 3 representives something would get started.( I doubt it)

It is not supply and demand. The supply is here,as far as demand Gas is a necessary item because anyone who lives in a small town now does not have the services we had before because of the wal-marts,home depot, mennards,no business survived and now excessive travel is a must,so vehicle wear is increased (trade more often). And now all of the major cities charge an extra tax that all of the rural town people have to pay. Does anyone believe that the NAWS tax will go away,Now Minot wants a dome. City property tax is enough already, when are the cities going to live within their means, why are they above the people's means.

At the rate of property tax one months wages goes to property tax. And two months of wages goes to all other taxes(gas ,household, excise just to name a few) so that leaves 9 months to make payments on house and vehicle etc.

No doubt we're all be gouged.  When you have something everyone else wants you can charge what you want.  But, you can't base your comments on the math you used.  To try to make it that simple is rather naive.  The cost of producing a gallon of gas contains not only the variable cost of oil, but also fixed costs such as refineries, pipelines, and the works.  The more gas you sell the less per gallon the fixed costs are.  When volume goes down, the fixed costs are still there.  So, while yes we are being gouged, there is more to the price of a gallon of gas than just the raw oil product.

I remember the dems winning elections because they promised they'd fix the evil gas gougers and the evil oil companies.  Still waiting.  Free market folks, supply and demand.

I love the gas market. It's the only market that doesn't have to abide by the laws of supply and demand.

Demand goes down, supply stays the same, and the price per barrel goes up. Makes sense to me.

If Obama walked into your living room soaking wet and said it was raining outside, you better go look, because there is a good chance it is clear and the sun is shining.

There is plenty of a supply of gas---at $2.75.

The shortage seems to be in the "$2.10 gas" category.

Its not $2.10 either.  Where I work we don't pay fed tax for our work vehicles.  The gas slip was $2.34.  Not sure where you guys are getting $2.10 from.  This is in the Minot area.  The gas price in Minot seems to be where it should at $2.69.

i guess $73 barrell gas with pump price hovering around $2.50 to $2.75 nationwide isnt unreasonable. I cringe at $3 or more and would love to pay less. Not all that suprised at the current price, mid-summer, july 4th.

Funny thing about your comment Marksimon30 is that not to long ago, you were blaming the Republicans for absolutely everything.  Now that it is turned around on your precious Democrats, it is aparently a different story and should not be allowed.  Personally, I think the hypocricy is funny as heck.

You are basically right, the Democrats are making everything that  is wrong a lot worse. No need to ask Tim, most folks know it without asking Tim.

I hope it goes to 5 bucks a gallon. Let you damn whiners complain then. We'll see who the real sportsmen are then. The ones that ride bikes out to the field, take horses, and carry old single shots instead of fancy red labels and such. IF you are going to cap oil and gas prices, then cap healthcare, cap groceries, cap insurance, cap entertainment expenses. Vote socialist. If you don't like the gas prices, use your God given right and STOP buying it. It's that simple.

marksimon30,
Here's a fact for you to ponder, when Bush walked out the door of the white house for the last time gasoline was less than 2 bucks a gallon. Obama got elected and the democrats took over congress and it's been going up ever since. Goes to show what everyone knows, the democrats are in bed with big oil.
