I have a friend looking at a boat with a 2006 E-tec 75 horse on it.  Any opinions good, bad, or otherwise?

I have an Evinrude E-Tech 250 on my 2009 Ranger 620 and don't have anything bad to say about it.

Everyone that has ridden in my boat has commented how quiet it is.

Plenty of power and gets pretty decent fuel mileage.

I have a 175 on a Ranger 1860 Angler.  I have had 2 injectors go bad.  They did warrenty them.  The other problem I have is I haven't found the right prop match yet.
Can't get more than 5100 or so rpms.  Here is a good site for E-tec owners.

I just talked to a buddy of mine that "had" that exact motor. He got it new in 06 and traded it last year. He was on his 4th powerhead and countless other things that he had to take it in for. He said his recommendation would be to run 100:1 oil not 50:1 like they recommend. When it was running it ran great but in his opinion it wasn't running enough. Could have just been a lemon but I wanted to share.

Buddy of mine runs a 90 horse Etec down in NC.  He loves his, well he has ever since they updated the computer code.  Not long after he got it he was out on the Pamlico Sound and had it go into limp mode because it failed to recognize that it had oil in the reservoir.

I am quite sure he has put a ton of hours on that thing since he got it in 05 or 06 and has nothing bad to say about it.  Been on the boat and it is a very quiet engine, at least as quiet as my Yamaha 115 4-S.

You see a lot more of them on the coasts than you do around here.  Mostly because of how Mercury strong arms you into getting a Merc on many of the new hulls sold around this area.

I have owned 2 - 250 e-tec’s on the 08 I had 1 injector go bad on the 2010 it has been good to go for 2 years now. Both have been on 620 Rangers.

Zogman – what do you run for a prop now? Have you tried a 4 blade cyclone?

Flyn- Are you running a four blade?

I have a a three blade Viper TBX 19 pitch on my E-tech 250 and bought a 21 pitch (Just haven't put it on yet).

I bought my boat in Colorado and the guy said I wouldn't get the most speed out of it here unless I went to a 21 pitch.

I have been thinking about getting a four blade. I heard it offers more control but the one I was looking at is over $600 (Cyclone TBX).

Yes I run a 21p 4 blade cyclone. With the Lightning gear case, I was hitting 62 mph’s. Then they did a warranty update and I got the new straight edge gear case and I am at 59 mph’s with the 4 blade cyclone. They sent me a new 22p rebel 3 blade late this fall because they were back ordered I never got a chance to run it.It is suppose to be better. I also know of a guy that runs the 21p rebel 3 blade and he was getting 60 mph’s. With a 19 you are going to have a nice holeshot but nothing top end, I would think anyways on a 250.

I have tried the 14 1/8 X 21- 4 blade ss cyclone.  It was too much pitch for the 175
I am sure it works great on the 250.  Yup over $600 bucks.

I will sell one for $350.  I bought it new and it has only been on the boat for about 1/2 hour.

The biggest problem is that the lower units are machined so tight. If you hit something it's not a question of if the lower unit is going to go out, but when. Fishing partner of mine is on his 4th lower unit in 2 seasons. He only fish's on 2 bodies of water, Devils Lake and the Missouri river. Two places that give you a good chance of hitting wood.

Been getting my props from Ricky a Brainerd Prop Repair 1-218-824-0000.  Set me up right away, and if you are not quite happy with a prop send it back, and he will send you another, only buying what you like.  He can also work props for you.
