Byron man named snowmobile instructor of the year

Jim Miesbauer of Byron was named the Minnesota DNR Snowmobile Volunteer Instructor of the Year for 2008 during the Minnesota United Snowmobile Association (MnUSA) Winter Rendezvous on Feb.14, in Grand Rapids.
“This award recognizes outstanding individuals such as Jim Miesbauer who educate youth and adults on the safe use of a snowmobile and re sp ect for laws and conservation,” said Capt. Mike Hammer, DNR Enforcement Education Program coordinatorvolunteer snowmobile instructor program is nearly 1,500 strong.
Through the efforts of these volunteer instructors, approximately 300,000 snowmobilers have graduated from snowmobile safety education courses since 1969. “Without their work, educating youth and adult snowmobilers would be an impossible job,” Hammer said.
In the past 20 years, Miesbauer has certified more than 600 youth and adult snowmobilers.
